Provides initial source to compare franchises.

The Ultimate Book of Franchises provides information that is generally available on the web without purchasing the book. When I purchased this book and others I was looking for more detailed information regarding Childcare Center franchises that included their building sizes, how many children their facilities would accommodate, ratios they used for each age group, financial statements, and other information that isn't generally disclosed. If you are looking to purchase a franchise, the book could help with your initial efforts in narrowing down a group of potential franchises. The franchise I wanted more information on, Park Place Children's Center, was not in this issue.

a must read

This book illuminates more than the history of Doctors Without Borders and takes us in the meanders of modern politics that have for goal to foster life. MSF is a critical lens through which fundamental ethical debates emerge. Too much too say about this very dense book. Pleasant surprise: it is an anthropology book, which, for the most part, are rather dry readings - but, here, subtle touches of humor, a real gift for descriptions and beautiful prose show that highly theoretical books can be fantastic readings.

Very good picture book, but.....

Well, I do have a couple of criticisms of this as a book for 6-8 year olds. First, the colors aren't the bright ones that make such a book a favorite for the child. Secondly, the Spanish/English translation isn't accurate.

Even so, I definitely think this is a good child's book because of the idea in back of it. The English words evoke a beautiful picture, and actually the Spanish words also do, but a somewhat different picture. The reader should be told that the translation isn't precise. However, with help from parent, the child can increase his or her Spanish understanding.

The same goes for a Spanish speaking child...the book can be used to enhance English speaking skills as long as the reader knows the translation is very loose.

This is a beautiful artistic rendition of the Spanish folk song, De Colores ...

The moon smiles as it watches over the Earth below. Men tumble along the ground in the mountains and colorful birds fly above them. Bees and butterflies flit through the skies underneath a colorful rainbow. "'De colores," / bright with colors the rainbow brings joy / with the glory of spring. / And a bright love has found us / with peace all around us / that makes our hearts sing." Even the red rooster comes alive with song joining the others who lift their heads high as they combine their voices. Everyone holds hands as they cluster around the hen. She too, sings a song of joy and then her chicks join in. "P�o, p�o, p�o, p�o, p�." The whole world sings of love and peace.

de muchos colores me gustan
a m�.

And a bright love has found us
with peace all around us
that makes our hearts sing.

"De Colores" (Made of Colors) is an age-old Spanish folk song that is given a new artistic twist with David Diaz's distinctive artwork. The characters, both people and animals, tumble through the pages bringing the verse alive. The Spanish version is on the left-hand page of the book while the English is on the right. Although this song has been used as an "anthem of the United Farm Workers of America" and sung by the likes of Joan Baez, the lively tune is much loved by children as well. The music in the back of the book can be enlarged and played. This is a beautiful bilingual book that would be a perfect compliment to a musical circle or storytime!

Great song turned into an illustrated book

[[VIDEOID:mo2LOC8QZESYR1]]I thought this was a book that taught you the colors in Spanish, but I was very wrong. There are no colors in this book, because it's actually a traditional Spanish song for migrant farm workers. It's a unifying song of the people.

This book is the whole song, in both English and Spanish. Each page of the book is a different line of the song. You can either get the music off the internet to sing along, or the book also has the sheet music to the song, if you're good at an instrument.

It's a fun song for the whole family to sing along. And singing this song always sounds great, even if you think you're a bad singer. The illustrations in this book are also very beautiful. I recommend this book to everyone, and I'm definitely going to be requesting this song the next time I'm at a restaurant with mariachis.

Above all, this is a book which strives to find new links between the micro-politics of daily life and the evolving structures of capitalism. “If we could find out why and when our hopes for life were buried,” Haug argues, “then we could try to take our history in our own hands.” Beyond Female Masochism provides the materials, and inspiration, to do just that.

Many members of the black community will be familiar with Kunjufu because of his tireless efforts in promoting his nine previous books, such as the three-volume Countering the Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys (African American Images, 1983, 1986, 1990), and his ideas. Kunjufu has degrees in economics and business, his company (the book's publisher) employs 100 people, and he tours the country giving lectures and interviews. Well researched and containing minimal business jargon, his book makes business concepts easily understandable without condescension to the lay reader. It then gives a clear call to action for blacks to join together to improve the lot of the average African American. While most of the ideas have been bandied about in African American circles for years, this is the most comprehensive, compelling, and clearly worded effort this reviewer has read. Recommended for all public libraries.

An Excellent Read

This book is an excellent resource for anyone willing to gain insight into the issue of black unemployment, the lack of significant black wealth, and the lack of black entrepreneurship. The author very clearly identifies this obstacles to the creation of black wealth, including both internal and external factors at play. I do wish that some of the information regarding globalization had been updated. Over all, this was an excellent read, and I learned a great deal about these critical issues within the African-American community.
